On Tuesday 26th March, Oaks International School project at Cherry Hinton Hall was presented at the Cambridge Design and Construction Awards and was awarded a commendation in the ‘Alteration or Extension of an Existing Building’ category.
Sponsored by Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry (CFCI), these design awards have been held since 1988 to recognise the growth in Cambridge to celebrate the more recent, high quality, developments that have been built in the city.
OIS worked with Chadwick, Dryer and Clarke Studios and Bidwells on this major project and Cherry Hinton Hall’s refurbishment was completed in January 2018 and has provided a light, modern and spacious environment for children to pursue their individual intellectual curiosities.
The school now has a centrally enclosed early learning courtyard which provides a fun and inspiring activity space for the school’s youngest children, linked closely with the internal teaching spaces, and outdoor room for covered learning. The new ‘Giant’s Garden’ linked to Cherry Hinton Brook offers opportunities for children to extend their learning from the library to the outdoors, ensuring that the redeveloped school integrates with its beautiful setting in Cherry Hinton Park. The improved teaching and learning spaces provides contemporary and inspiring environments, whilst retaining the unique historical character and setting of the school.
The competition in Cambridge is fierce and we are delighted and proud that our fantastic refurbishment has received this recognition.
