Oaks International School is recognised for the quality of the pastoral care we provide for our students. A feature of the School is its commitment to providing an unpressurised learning environment based around each child’s readiness to learn. OIS believes learning can and should be fun, challenging each student to achieve the highest educational standards in a nurturing and supportive environment.
Our small class sizes, approachable staff and family friendly atmosphere all combine to ensure that students are given the utmost care and guidance throughout their time with us.
Students are in one of our three houses, allowing support across year groups and enabling older students to mentor the younger ones. In the Primary School, there is a buddy system where younger classes are paired up with older ones to do a range of activities together, which is beneficial to both age groups and allows many life skills to be introduced.
OIS also has a successful School Council giving an opportunity for students to have a voice in the running of the school.
Throughout the curricula children have lessons in Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE). These classes cover a wide range of topics relating to personal and social issues, and the students exchange ideas openly. Assemblies offer the opportunity to meet as a community, reflect on different cultural beliefs and to celebrate diversity through pupil-led presentations.
OIS values the importance of a good relationship between the student, their family and staff. Open and communicative dialogue is encouraged to develop trust, build relationships and stimulate emotional intelligence. This level of trust is established through class teachers contacting parents within two weeks of starting the school in order to introduce themselves and to give and receive initial feedback. There is a cycle of written reports and parent consultations but parents are encouraged to contact teachers whenever they have questions, and are warmly invited to join in with the life of the school.
