The children are divided into three houses – Maple, Rowan and Silver Birch. House points can be earned for effort and achievement as well as for showing particular personal qualities. House points are added up weekly and totals announced in assembly on Fridays. The winning house each term receives a reward such as pizza in the park or a movie with popcorn.
Across the school, infant and junior classes are buddied up to provide opportunities for children of different ages to get to know one other. Once a week the children meet and work on an activity together which may involve the older children sharing skills with the younger. It also allows the older children to develop patience and empathy, and for the younger children to develop confidence.
The typical timetable for a day in the Primary School is as follows:
Assemblies are held on Mondays and Fridays. The Monday assembly is theme based covering topics or events such as ‘New Beginnings’, Black History Month, Harvest and Remembrance Day. The Friday assembly is a celebration of the children’s learning as well as extra curricular activities and sports.
